The KitchenAid Artisan KSM125, KSM175, and KSM185 stand mixers are all built on the same foundation. They share the same powerful motor, tilt-head design, and 4.8 L mixing bowl capacity. Each of them delivers the same 10 mixing speeds, the same planetary mixing action that sweeps the bowl clean, and the same sturdy die-cast metal body. In other words, whichever model you choose, the performance of the mixer itself will be virtually identical. The differences lie mainly in the accessories that come with the machine, the finish of those accessories, and the cosmetic details of the mixer itself.

The KitchenAid KSM125: The Essentials

The KSM125 is the simplest option in the range and includes the core set of accessories: the main mixing bowl, a wire whisk, a flat beater, and a dough hook. These attachments are generally coated rather than stainless steel, which is fine for most users, but can wear faster if they are frequently run through the dishwasher. The KSM125 is also offered in a more limited colour palette and is the most affordable of the three, making it a solid entry point if you only bake occasionally and want the essential functionality without extra cost.

The KitchenAid KSM175: Added Convenience

Stepping up to the KSM175, you get everything from the KSM125 plus some very useful extras. The most notable is the addition of a second, smaller 3 L mixing bowl, which makes a big difference if you like to prepare multiple elements of a recipe without having to stop and wash your only bowl. The KSM175 also includes a splash guard to reduce mess and, in many bundles, a flex-edge beater that scrapes the sides of the bowl as it mixes, saving time and cleanup. This model tends to be available in a wider range of colours and finishes, making it an attractive mid-range option for more regular bakers who want a little more convenience and versatility.

The KitchenAid KSM185: Premium Quality

The KSM185 sits at the top of the line and offers the same accessories as the KSM175, but with a focus on premium quality and durability. Instead of coated attachments, it comes with a stainless steel wire whisk, dough hook, and flat beater, which are more resistant to wear and fully dishwasher-safe. These metal finishes not only last longer but also give the mixer a more professional, polished look. The KSM185 is also sometimes offered in exclusive colours or premium finishes, making it the most stylish and durable choice, though it comes with a higher price tag.

Which KitchenAid Mixer Should You Choose?

In practice, the differences between these three models come down to how much you bake, how often you use the mixer, and how much you value accessories and finishes. The KSM125 is perfectly adequate for the occasional baker who simply wants a reliable, powerful machine. The KSM175 adds real convenience for more frequent use, especially with the second bowl and splash guard. The KSM185 is best suited to heavy bakers who want the longest-lasting attachments, dishwasher-safe durability, and a premium look to match their kitchen.

Ultimately, all three mixers will give you the same high-quality results. The choice is really about the extras: if you want to save money, go with the KSM125. If you value convenience, the KSM175 offers a great balance of features and price. And if you want the most premium version, built to last with stainless steel accessories, the KSM185 is the one to choose.
