Using Your Blender at Christmas

Christmastime has rolled around again, and we’ve been getting festive with our blenders to produce a few Christmas themed recipes. Bring merriment and joy to your friends and families with these simple and tasty meals and drinks.

Mulled Spiced Cider

To battle the cold of the winter a warm drink is always best, and since its December what could be more appropriate than some mulled cider?

Ingredients

  • 900ml of Apple Cider
  • 2 Apples (Cut into quarters and remove seeds)
  • 1 Peeled Orange (Keep ¼ of the peel to add to the recipe)
  • 1 teaspoon of Powdered Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of Powdered Cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon of Granulated Sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of Powdered Ginger

Instructions

Before you start actually making the cider, you first need to prepare your seasoning. Powdered ginger is relatively common, but if you can’t find any powdered cinnamon or cardamom, then you can use your blender to process the raw sticks or pods instead.

The process for making this mulled cider recipe is very simple, but it will vary a little bit depending on the capabilities of your blender. If you’re lucky enough to own a blender that can heat ingredients, begin by pouring all of them into the blending jug. When every ingredient has been added, secure the jug into position and turn your blender on. If you have the option for a pre-programmed soup mode you can use that, but if you don’t gradually increase the speed to full power. Once at full power, leave the blender for at least 5 minutes to heat the cider up. When the cider is at the desired temperature, dispense it into some glasses and drink it while it's hot!

Now, if your blender can’t heat, then we recommend a similar process, but instead of blending for about 6 minutes you will instead only blend until the cider has a thin consistency throughout. Then pour the cider into a pan and heat it on a stove until it’s at your ideal temperature.

Peppermint Blast

If you’re a fan of a peppermint stick at Christmas this simple smoothie is one you have to try.

Ingredients

  • 1 Peeled Banana
  • 2 Apples (Cut into quarters and remove seeds)
  • 2 tablespoons of Cacao Powder
  • 3 Sprigs of Mint
  • 1 teaspoon of Powdered Cinnamon
  • 30ml of Coconut Milk

Instructions

A smoothie is always quick and simple to make in a blender. Simply load up the ingredients into the blending jug and turn the blender up to full power for about 45 seconds. If you want it smoother repeat the process until it meets your requirements.

Chocolate Figgy Mousse

We all like some figgy pudding, but after Christmas dinner finding room for anything that filling can be tough. Instead, try keeping the fig flavour as part of a lighter chocolate mousse.

Ingredients

  • 80g of Dried Figs
  • 200ml of Milk
  • 500ml of Heavy Cream
  • 200ml of Chocolate Chips
  • 50g of Granulated Sugar
  • ½ teaspoon of Powdered Cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon of Powdered Ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of Powdered Gellatin

Instructions

Begin by placing all of the dried figs into the blending jug. Then blend them at about half power for one minute to produce a smooth mixture. Next, pour in the milk and half of the chocolate chips. Blend at a high speed until all the ingredients have mixed together evenly. Once you have a mixture with a consistent texture, pour in the cream, remaining chocolate chips, sugar and spices. Then blend at full power for about 3 minutes using a tamper or mixing utensil to aid even mixing of all ingredients. Finally, serve the mousse in separate glass dishes and leave them to cool in a fridge for 4-5 hours.
