Juices and smoothies can taste very similar after a while if you're not adding new ingredients. If you don’t fancy trying new vegetables and fruits, why not try supplement powders and roots. This is going to give your drink a little twist which will make it a bit more interesting than your average smoothie or juice.

Matcha Powder

Matcha is rich in protein, low in calories, and contains vitamins B1, B2, B12, C, and E as well as calcium, zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and amino acids. If you love a nutty flavour then your likely to enjoy this powder.

  • 100ml Coconut water
  • a handful of Frozen blueberries
  • 1 Banana
  • 2 handfuls Spinach
  • 1 teaspoon of Matcha powder
  • Blend all ingredients until smooth. Serve immediately with ice.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is great for juices and smoothies as it has antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant properties that give our body resistant to viruses and bacteria that cause illness. It also gives a great coconut undertone to your smoothies or juices. Make sure to buy the 100% natural oil as many other types of coconut oil can have added unnatural flavourings.

  • 100ml almond milk
  • 50g frozen strawberries.
  • 1 frozen banana.
  • 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil.
  • Blend until preferred consistency.

Wheat Germ

Just lick Matcha, wheat germ has a toasted nutty flavour and is great to add to a more savoury taste of sweet smoothies or juices. If you are already eating a lot of wholegrain products you probably can skip this powder, but you should consider this supplement if you are wanting more protein in your diet.

wheat germ is packed with healthy fatty acids, protein, fibre, important B vitamins, and range of minerals including iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, selenium and manganese. Not only is it packed with a whole host of nutrients it also has phytosterols which help lower unhealthy cholesterol and help heart health.

  • Add a tablespoon of wheat germ powder to any of your smoothies or juices.


This little gem of a root is an anti-inflammatory and can help reduce chronic diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, fights infections, reduces arthritis and other inflammatory diseases, helps to lower cholesterol and helps to reduce depression.

  • Turmeric can be added to a juice, fresh through a juicer, sprinkled in dried, or consumed as a paste for optimum benefits.


This one is fairly common to spice your juice or smoothie up, but it is still worth mentioning due to the many benefits you can receive from it. It supports digestion and reduces bloating, flatulence, nausea and supports blood circulation, reduces arthritis pain and inflammation, reduces painful periods, it also offers immune support particularly against upper respiratory infections and can be helpful in irregular blood sugar control and it also adds a great flavour.

You can add anything you like to your smoothies or Juices but sometimes it’s nice to mix things up and add a new flavour. There are so many powdered supplements that you can add to your drink and you should definitely consider them as they can help boost your vitamin and antioxidant intake.
