Having had cheaper versions in the past that either didn't fit our thick sliced bread, leaked, or didn't have removable plates for washing I decided to give this a try. So far, having made several toasties it certainly seems a robust machine which has no trouble dealing with our very thick slices. Even two sandwiches that are very long can be put in, overlapping, and come out absolutely fine. Removing the plates is easy to do and, so far, we've just washed them in soapy water. They are dishwasher proof, but we thought we'd save that until it was needed, as they have been so easy to wash. We're very pleased with it and it will be used frequently.
